7 steps towards climbing out the dark hole of depression

If you feel depressed let your doctor know.

Depression will wear you down if you let it. But you are strong enough to overcome it. Depression can be circumstantial or it can come out of no where. Either way, you have the power to change your thoughts and heal yourself from past trauma. Let your loved ones know that you are having a hard time right now and need extra support from them.

Thoughts of depression:

The walls are closing in and it’s hard to breathe. It seems so dark everywhere. It’s like a black cloud that follows me. I want to get better but I don’t have the energy. Feeling alone in the world even though there are people around me. Feeling pain. The pressure in my chest. My stomach hurts. My body hurts. I want to climb out of this deep dark whole but I don’t know how. I can’t deal with this pain anymore.

1. You have the power

The mind is so powerful. Your mind is making you feel like this. Your mind is making you think like this. Your mind is causing these feelings of pain. Choose to change your mind. Manifest the reality that you want. You are your reality. Life is what you think it is. Imagine your destiny. Imagine yourself happy and peaceful. Feel your strength and power. Heal your pain. Heal your body. Heal the past trauma. Imagine what you want in life and believe that you will get there. Believe wholeheartedly without a doubt that you will manifest your destiny

2. Love and Pain

This life on earth is full of love. But with love comes pain. Not feeling loved or hurt by a loved one or losing a loved one or feeling hurt that people are hurting other people instead of showing love and compassion for one another. The love and pain is apart of our life on earth. This is something we have to accept in order to be here. Is life not worth living because of the pain? Was the pain not worth the moments of love?

3. Calm your mind

You are strong and all powerful. You have God in you and you have God’s strength. You have the power to calm your mind and create peace within you. We constantly have racing thoughts. Our brain is in constant chaos.  Try and clear your mind and focus on your breaths. Push away those thoughts of things you have to do and conversations your having with yourself in your head. You have peace inside of you. Calm your mind and find your peace.  What else do you have the power to do?

4. Happiness- Help others

What makes you happy? What is your purpose in life? Loving others, serving and helping others creates happiness . What better purpose is there than to love and help others and make a difference in someone’s life? What can you do for others? How can you make someone else feel loved and cared for. You making a difference in that person’s life will create happiness. You are caring for your family. You are raising wonderful children who are our future. You can find ways to volunteer locally. You can ask your community church if there are any volunteer opportunities. You can also try the Meetup app. I have found unique ways to volunteer through Meetup.

5. Gratitude

Focus on what you are thankful for and not on what you don’t have. Remind yourself of what you are thankful for when you start to have negative thoughts. Have gratitude when you would normally become angry or sad. Find gratitude with every challenge. This practice helps us to think positive during challenging times.

6. Ask for help

If you are trying to get out of your depression but you can’t then ask for help. Let your family members know that you need extra support right now. Let them know how you are feeling. Make an appointment with your family medicine doctor. Call the number on your health insurance card and find out what coverage you have for mental health and what type of help they have. Usually there is a specific phone number for mental health or behavioral health and a nurse that can discuss what steps need to be taken. It is possible to be happy. Don’t give up hope. Life will be easier when you escape your depression.

7. Patience

Be patient with yourself. It’s okay if you’re not exactly where you want to be in life. Love yourself for all your hard work. Honor the process. Enjoy the process. You will become who you want to be and you will get to where you want to go. It takes time and hard work.

Depression is a parasite in your brain. You have the power to remove that parasite and be the person you know you really are. Life is full of challenges but life is worth the pain to experience the love. Clear the endless racing thoughts. Replace those negative thoughts with thoughts of appreciation. Be patient, You are working on yourself. It will get better. Ask your family for support. You are not alone.

You are strong and powerful.

You are loved.

You are love and love is all around you.

Feel that love, absorb that love.

Share that love.
